Hands at work...

There's nothing more beautiful (other than the happy faces of my kids) than creative hands at work. Here are a few photos taken during my workshop from last Saturday's, "Clipboard Shrine-ology".  I had wonderful students, who weren't afraid to try anything!

A big  "thank you" to Lori and Teresa for letting me photograph their projects in-the-works. We had a wonderful time!

"The Vancouver Problem"... article about the state of the arts in the Pacific Northwest

Vancouver B.C water taxi, originally uploaded by jomoma58.

(I love Vancouver!) Read this recent article from "The Stranger" and come back and tell me what you think about the art scene in Seattle, Vancouver B.C., the U.S. in general. I tend to agree with the article. I have to thank my daughter (who will be attending art school in Vancouver in the fall) for sending me this one. Good job!

Rumi and art from the vaults....

I just can't get enough of the writings of Rumi...so here's a favorite of mine, paired with one of my pastel paintings called "Afternoon Meadow"... Enjoy.

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field. I'll meet you there...

When the soul lies down in that grass
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase each other
doesn't make any sense.

The birth of a shrine...

This is another clipboard shrine in the works. These shrine/assemblage pieces are like jigsaw puzzles...I just have to be patient with the process of trial and error (i.e. fitting the right pieces together). I did the base and niche (made from an old book) last January, and I'm just getting around to placing objects on the shrine. I found the porcelain figure piece at ArtFest vendor night 3 months later, so one HAS to be patient with the process. It's a good idea to have more than one of these going at the same time...if an object doesn't work on one shrine, then it may work on another. Now, how to attach...
