"Encaustic on the go" piece finished!
The final finished piece, "Kaanapali 1: Green Flash". As you can see, I have added a beautiful thin turquoise line toward the top horizon line (my "green flash"), some lines etched underneath with the sharp end of a wooden skewer (rubbed in with some metallic gold oil pastel). I then used the mini iron on a Cadmium Red Hot Stick (Enkaustikos) and applied over the surface texture in the mid area. The bottom "strip" also has lines etched with the skewer combined with a luscious Sennelier oil pastel rub. Done!
Even more progress on the "on the go" piece.
Now I have added (on the right side) more wax and texture using the blunt end of a wooden meat skewer, which was allowable to take on the airplane. I've also added some white wax over the muslin, to the left, using the wax sticks (I melt the end of it using my heat gun or iron, then vigorously run it across the surface). Stay tuned for more progress!
More "progress" on my little "encaustic on the go" piece!
I am working with Enkaustikos Hot Sticks and Wax Snaps, and only using my heat gun and mini quilting iron. My substrate is a 5x7" PastelBord, which has a white clay coating, so it's ready to go. I have attached a small strip of loose-weave muslin (one of my FAVORITE art supplies). Outdoors! This is getting fun!
