Edmonds Art Studio Tour is coming this weekend!

This art assemblage piece that I just completed is ready to "debut" at the Edmonds Art Studio Tour, taking place this weekend, September 17 & 18, from 10-5! I will be showing at Lynn Scott Studio (#3 on the Tour map, see link below) along with Lynn Scott, Tracy Kay Fraker and Robin Westbrook.  When you arrive, you will see some amazing artwork! We will be showing acrylic and mixed media paintings, encaustic paintings, collage, assemblage, photography and hand-beaded jewelry. We will also be demonstrating various art techniques throughout the weekend. Edmonds is located approximately 30 minutes north of Seattle, and there is plenty to do (and taste there) this weekend. I'll see you there!

A few good reasons to come to Edmonds this weekend!

Here is another sneak peek at new artwork I am showing in Edmonds, Washington, through the weekend of July 17th and 18th. "Maman" (encaustic with mixed media) is making her first appearance in public at ArtSplash, and "The Rodent Speaks" is speaking his point of view on things at the Fabric of Life Boutique. (see my sidebar for links to show hours and addresses).

There are also a few FUN events going on around town, like the free bluegrass concert happening on Sunday in Edmonds City Part at 3:00 p.m. Edmonds in Bloom, a gorgeous garden tour, is also taking place on Sunday from 11-4. And, there are always the beautiful beaches to visit!

Edmonds Art studio Tour (In case you missed it...)

I survived the Edmonds Art Studio Tour–that would make a great T-shirt!! It was a huge success, thanks to everyone's tireless efforts--especially the organizers!! A++ to you all! I had over 175 people come through my studio. Everyone was genuinely interested in learning about the "process" of encaustics, which I was demonstrating all weekend. I had some fabulous conversations with various people about love of junk and found objects, the use of beeswax in art, the history of encaustics (dates back to ancient Egyptian times!), how I progressed from 'pastel landscape artist' to 'mixed media/collage/encaustic artist', the gorgeous September weather, how Latino cultures affect my artwork, Day of the Dead festivities, and on and on. I wish that I could have recorded these wonderful conversations. Maybe next year (if I recover enough to do it again), I will set up a video camera at my demonstration table, so some of these conversations could be recorded--ooh! is that too "Big Brother"? Anyway, this weekend, if nothing else, restored my faith in the fact that people still have a genuine and hearty interest in the visual arts! Thank you to all who took time out to come by!

If you missed this event, there is always next year...

My studio is squeaky clean...

Copyright Estate of Thomas Jones

I've been hanging and cleaning for over a week now, preparing for the Edmonds Art Studio Tour THIS weekend, 9/19 and 9/20. Right now, I feel like doing what this guy (who happens to be my dad) is doing...putting on a hula skirt, swigging a nice bottle of something expensive and getting a little crazy!!

I will be showing close to eighty (yes, that's 80!!) works of art, and 1/3 of my house has been turned into a gallery! The studio tour is open to the public and free. (I just need to remember to keep breathing!)...

What makes this artist 'tick'?

Scenes (part one) from my "Awesome Summer Vacation": John Day Fossil Beds and Painted Hills, Central Oregon, USA. (I felt as though I were walking inside of a Georgia O'Keefe painting!). One of my biggest childhood dreams was to be an archaeologist. Guess that's why I like using bones and old things in my art now...

I'm 'revving up' for the upcoming Edmonds Art Studio Tour, which will take place September 19 and 20 in Edmonds, Washington. I've had a couple of minor 'setbacks' during my preparation, including a 'soon to be 13 year old son always at home and bored', and this week : Pneumonia!!
I know everything will work out, on time and just right, somehow...
