My NEW website is: JonesMooreStudioArt.com

My web gallery is no longer located at www.artid.com/jonesmoore. I have a beautiful NEW website that includes new work, and information about all of my upcoming encaustic and mixed media classes: www.jonesmoorestudioart.com

Many "thanks" to my talented daughter, Jen, of Jennifer Moore Design for her countless hours and patience in designing this new website for me! When I learn how, I will be moving this blog over to my website. But for now, this is still the place for all current happenings and updates, as well as on my Jones•Moore Studio Art Facebook page

Playing with Encaustic Prints Today

On the studio table today: experimental encaustic monotype prints. I'm trying out a new ceramic hot griddle and some new luscious colors...instant gratification! This one will be titled "Arriba-abajo".

Busy as a Bee Spending Time with my NEW Love: Encaustic Monotypes!

For the last month I have been PLAYING in the studio with a new technique: encaustic monotype! I cannot stop! It's immediate (gratification), spontaneous, NOT labor intensive and requires only one heated griddle...

And I LOVE working on paper. I have not had the pleasure of working on paper since my pastel landscape days. I am printing on ANYTHING I can get my hands on (and already have in the studio): BK Rives, rice paper, mulberry paper, inkjet printable cotton and some "unknowns".

I am usually able to complete several prints in less than an hour. I love that hey relate to each other because of the ghost prints (pulling a second print while there is still a trace of the encaustic paint left on the heated plate). I am working with R & F bars of encaustic paint, Enkaustikos Hot Sticks and Wax Snaps. And in true JonesMoore style, I am throwing a little mixed media onto the prints: graphite, oil pastels, charcoal and several brands of water soluble sticks, such as Derwent and Stabilo. I AM IN HEAVEN! STAY TUNED FOR MORE ON THIS FABULOUS ADVENTURE...I THINK I MAY JUST BE TEACHING THIS IN THE SPRING!

Another encaustic "on the go"!

I am using mini wax sticks, local sand and muslin on Pastelbord. My only tools are a small quilting iron, craft heat gun and painters tape. Waterscapes are definitely on my mind! What fun!

Various versions of a theme...

I am currently working on an assemblage piece with the theme of "By Definition", dealing with thoughts and issues surrounding womanhood, life, death, aging...It's been a joy to be working on this piece over the last three weeks, after coming through a very hectic time at my new job, coordinating classes for the Schack Art Center in Everett, Washington.

I am using encaustic with paper mache torsos and dried rose buds, a "found" vintage trunk shelf, wire, quail eggs and other found objects. It has been a fascinating journey, and the piece "shape-shifts" every day. The mechanics of putting this piece together have been a real challenge! At one point, I was hanging shellac-dipped quail eggs from tree branches in my back yard, tending to the their "drying" process like any good mother hen might do.

I am hoping to finish this in time to enter into the National Collage Society's online juried show. What's next? Attaching the other two remaining torsos, and arranging the "veil"...it will be a two-person job for this task!

The development of an idea...

Above: Original idea

Progression of an idea. This encaustic painting is about the "primordial and spiritual" experience of being female. The handwritten quote "underneath" the wax is an excerpt from "The Thunder, Perfect Mind", taken from the Nag Hammadi Library (The Gnostic Society Library). Fascinating reading, by the way.

The quote starts out with "I was sent forth from the power..." According to expert Elaine Pagels, it was "...spoken in the voice of a feminine divine power."

(Blogger isn't allowing me to arrange the photos in order of progression, but you get the idea.)

Aloe quietly breathing–
Winter waits outside.

A "sneek" peek at the Ladies...

This is one of the new pieces I will be showing at ArtSplash, opening July 15, in downtown Edmonds, Washington. You have GOT to see this one in person, the photo doesn't quite do it justice! This is based on an old drawing from college that I did many years ago, and I have carved the figures into encaustic wax. I've added ink, graphite, sand and glass micro-beads. See the sidebar to the right for more information on this fabulous upcoming show...
