Welcome to my new blog, La Vida Artistica=The Artistic Life. I have chosen to have my blog title bi-lingual because I love everything about Latino and Hispanic culture and people. And, it is my firm New Year's resolution to become fluent in Spanish by the end of the year. This blog will cover everything from my art-in-progress to my art workshops to my longings to be back in Mexico and southern climes. I have probably been to Mexico about as many times as I have fingers and toes...and whenever I leave, a part of my heart stays. My art seems to be leaning more and more toward this perpetual yearning...I hope you enjoy what you see and read on these pages.
There is nothing prettier than a griddle full of encaustic. Is that what the pic is?
ReplyDeleteYes! I treated myself to a New Years' gift, and purchased a few encaustic colors from Daniel Smith. The few colors that I had previously made turned black when I left the griddle on for too long (an accident!). I'm almost 'afraid' to use these because they are so expensive. I'm working with white on white at the moment, which is kind of ironic!
ReplyDeleteGreat new blog Lisa. FYI on learning Spanish - my friend Suzy Martinez teaches intensive Spanish classes and might be coming to the studio here in AZ to teach a 5 day intensive. I'll send you her contact info. (PS - its on my list for 2009 as well.)
ReplyDeleteglad i'm not the only one afraid of using new materials!!! same thing here. i have some colors i got ONE YEAR AGO!!! and there they sit. i keep using my older, melted normal colors...............this year i need to JUMP!!!! yeah, on your blog, gal!! YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
ReplyDeleteglad it's not just me that has a problem using new art supplies. i'm FAMOUS for that. have some encaustic paint from LAST YEAR,sitting coz it's so new and shiny and pretty and UNMELTED! this will be the year to bust free and use stuff! YES! xoox
ReplyDeleteThanks, Wendy and Karon, for visiting and commenting. I think I really like this blogging thing!
ReplyDeleteI, too have only recently joined the blogging world and it is oh, so exciting; such a world of sharing. I am lapping up tips for starting encaustic; the effect seems to be quite magical, though I have only seen photographs of completed work so far, nothing for real. (And I, too, have loads of new, untouched art supplies, paper and textiles particularly.) Ann (from UK)
ReplyDeleteI wish you great luck in your pursuit of doing and learning about encaustics. I highly recommend the book " The Art of Encaustic Painting" by Joanne Mattera. A beautifully published book with lots of really great technical information--and easy to understand. Make sure you have very good ventilation! Thank you for visiting.
ReplyDeleteLisa, Thankyou so much for replying - and for your advice on a book to look at (I will search it out), and for following one of my blogs. I so look forward to future posts from you. Ann.
ReplyDeleteYou are most welcome!
