"Captive Heart" shrine just completed...

I've just completed another 'clipboard' shrine. It's made with found objects and encaustic wax.  I dipped a fabric heart in the wax several times (this was too fun, and now I want to dip everything!). These are starting to be a bit addictive. I will be teaching workshops on how to do this in April and June. Please see the sidebar for my upcoming workshops if you are interested in learning how to do this. If they are not yet posted in the class catalogs, please contact me at: jomoma58@yahoo.com for more information. This shrine is now available in my Etsy shop.

  1. This is just lovely - and I want to dip things in wax now !! I was in a big stationery store today and wish I had thought to buy some clipboards. In a simpler fashion, I guess my artistic grandchildren would love to make shrines, too.

  2. Oh it's SO much fun to dip things in wax...even plain beeswax works nicely (even better for non-rigid objects).

  3. This depicts, exactly, the condition of my heart today, learning that the search has been called off for the 3 missing guys in Florida. One of them somehow penetrated my entire being, Marquis Cooper, and the sadness and futility I feel is overwhelming. What a beautiful, expressive shrine -- it's an image I'm going to hold close to myself today, if you don't mind.

  4. This is a most moving compliment. Yes, that is so extremely sad for the family and friends of these guys. I too feel heartache everytime someone's child (even adult child) goes missing....thank you.
